Back In The Pit

The Earls Of Mars L-R: Dan Hardingham and Harry Armstrong.

The Earls Of Mars at The Unicorn, Camden, 05/09/2015

I wrote a while ago about taking pictures at concerts, I found myself in the pit at a gig played by The Earls Of Mars recently. I had come with my DSLR, no compact tonight, looking to take some pictures that were better than my usual ‘Fan Boy’ snapping.

The venue was a Camden pub, The Unicorn, well known for a lively roster of underground and alternative bands.
A darkened room, wildly flashing lights, flailing arms and heads, this is an environment I have plenty of experience with, being a frequent gig goer. I knew it would be a challenge having my camera in my hand but that only added to the thrill.

Getting jostled, being in pitch black one second and being blinded the next, the band’s movement as they play, it all makes the occasion what it is and it was a great night out listening to new, and weird, music played live – how it should be heard – and taking it’s photo as it happens. Takes me back to my student days.
